NBV clients David Robertson of Clip ‘n Climb Nottingham, and Social Media Marketing expert John Morley of i-Sourcer have seen both their businesses grow after an introduction from NBV business adviser Glen Starbuck following their individual tailored business support sessions. David with Glen and John with David Hallam, both Business Advisers with NBV
Both business owners began trading in 2016 and benefitted from early support and advice from NBV. Of his initial meeting with business adviser, Glen Starbuck, David commented “I went to our first meeting with Glen with no preconceptions and just talked about our concept and how we planned to move the business forwards… The first meeting exceeded my expectations as we discussed the possibility of available grants and possible link ups with other companies who can help us achieve our goals.”
One of the companies Glen suggested David contact was fellow NBV client John Morley of i-Sourcer whose business provides online promotion for SMEs across LinkedIn, Facebook & Twitter alongside training seminars on all three platforms. The Social Media skills that John honed over the 6 years prior to his business start-up were put to the test with Clip ‘n Climb’s ‘Climbing meets theme park’ business model. David told us that he had initially been inspired to open a Clip ‘n Climb after a caravanning holiday in Cumbria with his wife and co-business partner Ellen and their then 5 year old daughter Isla. During their stay the family had visited the Clip n’ Climb in Maryport one rainy afternoon. David explains “We all went and our daughter loved it and myself and Ellen loved the concept. Fast forward a month or so and at home in Derbyshire another rainy weekend was upon us and Ellen looked at the Clip ‘n Climb website to see if we had a venue close to us but the nearest was Manchester. However Ellen said to me ‘you know this is something we both could do’ and the seed was sown. After some hard work, 14 months later we opened to the public.”
John Morley realised the potential to grow Clip n’ Climb via social media channels “From my first meeting with David Robertson I quickly saw a path to growth for Clip ‘n Climb Nottingham using Social Media. It’s a fantastic concept and something I bought into having a young family of my own. I’m passionate about child obesity and taking children away from their mobile phones, Clip ‘n Climb provides a perfect environment where children can exercise and Mum and Dad can join in. Facebook is the perfect platform to promote such a business because the audience exists to grow a popular brand. With Social Media “Content is King”, David realises this and we regularly update and refresh the content we have.”
David has been delighted with the social reach of Clip ‘n Climb across Facebook commenting “The introduction of [i-Sourcer] has I believe increased our turnover by 20% through targeted social media marketing.”
Clip ‘n Climb currently employ 15 full time members of staff and 19 part-time members of staff and their sites are set firmly on the future of the business. David explains “Our plan for Clip ‘n Climb Nottingham relate to embedding Clip ‘n Climb into the community and showing how fun can be achieved through physical activity in children as well as other positive results. We have the ability to tailor specific lessons that show how to conquer fears as well as determination and confidence. Clip ‘n Climb also lends itself to helping special needs children with various Autistic spectrum disorders gain confidence as well as helping their gross and fine motor skills. We will actively target in order to show the power of Clip ‘n Climb”. Clip ‘n Climb has an equally valuable place in the corporate world offering the perfect venue for team building and team development activities. They also have the ability to fully cater for up to 100 delegates.
Meanwhile, John Morley of i-Sourcer is also looking to the future, and celebrating a recent win at the Mansfield 2020 Business Awards. John won the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award after the judges were impressed by his innovation and ability to achieve growth with evidence of strong financial performance. John Morley commented “To be given the award in our first 16 months of trading is a real coup for the business and something I’m incredibly proud of. Every business owner can relate to the long hours and sacrifices made when you are establishing a business and winning an award really makes it all worthwhile.”
