NBV are delighted to congratulate client Aimee Johnstone who has been shortlisted for “Sole Trader of the Year” at Nottingham Post’s Women in Business Awards 2017. Aimee was thrilled when she found out, telling us “The chance to be a finalist in the Nottingham Post businesswoman of the year has given me so much confidence in my abilities and the drive to push our business even further!”
After receiving hundreds of nominations, Nottingham Post announced the shortlist of 33 people across 11 categories last month, for the fifth annual competition. The finalists, who are an eclectic line up of senior bosses, apprentices, and “mumpreneurs”, were chosen by an impartial judging panel consisting of high profile members of Nottingham’s business community. Aimee’s business, MommaMakes, sells simple and unique clothing for little ones and their parents, providing the majority of their range in gender neutral colours.
Social media proved a great opening for the modest beginnings of this small family business. Aimee explains “I decided to start sewing handmade accessories in our dining room and found Instagram and Facebook might just be a great way to join the creation of a small business and big interest in fashion without having to pay rent on a physical shop.”
Seeking help to grow MommaMakes, Aimee found the business support and advice from NBV invaluable. Her advisor, Glen Starbuck, has helped ensure the business’s operational and financial structures have been in shape to support the company’s rapid growth. Glen commented “Aimee has continued to develop a fantastic portfolio of products and has been extremely successful in developing a significant social media following, often being approached by national magazines interested in promoting her brand” Of the support received Aimee enthuses “Glen has been an excellent mentor, providing me with sound advice and telling me when an idea may or may not work, as well as suggesting other brilliant local businesses that can help us grow our business!”
The winners of the Women in Business Awards 2017 will be announced Thursday November 16th in an awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza, on Wollaton Street.
