The Business Idea
Andrew Mullan approached NBV in April 2016. He wished to undertake a domiciliary care course, and benefit from extra mentoring and support. With a background in local government and stints working for the NHS and British Red Cross, Andrew wished to set up a small local care company, with a difference. He met with NBV adviser Kevin Horsnall who has given additional business support.
The Challenges
Both the NBV domiciliary care course and one-to-one mentoring support helped fill the gap in Andrew’s skillset, giving him greater confidence in setting up his care business. Equipped with a new business plan, he began to set up the business from April 2016.
Thanks to the new business skills and expert guidance from Kevin, Andrew has firmly established his new company as a professional local care provider.
“Kevin helped reassure me of my decisions and keep me on the right path. It’s been really useful having Kevin impart his business wisdom and insight.”
Programme Impact
Just A Little Company has only been operating for a year and it already employs 12 care staff. They focus on providing quality care that is not time limited, delivering a higher overall standard of care for patients they work for.
Andrew also places this same focus on quality care for his staff, which has helped to build a unique local company reputation and create an effective care provider in a short space of time.
Andrew is focusing on growing his new business steadily, and aims to provide 250-300 hours of care and support per week by the end of 2017. Just A Little Company is already more than halfway towards meeting this target.
