Many new entrepreneurs in the East Midlands are choosing the route of self-employment with the support of the NBV Starting in Business Programme, a four-day business start-up course. The training course is aimed at people who would benefit from in-depth knowledge on how to become self-employed and covers all of the skills that you’ll need to start and manage a successful small business. Norris Stewart, founder of Double Touch Soccer Ltd is one such Nottingham entrepreneur who came to NBV for support in getting to grips with the administration side of the business.

Giving elite and grassroots performers the opportunity to take ownership of their technical development

Based in Nottingham, Norris Stewart’s business offers an interactive coaching aid that will enable players to adapt better to the many technical, tactical, physical and psychological demands of the game of soccer. Norris adds: “I want to commercially introduce a revolutionary new soccer coaching system that will create a new innovative trend, along with a new brand of health and fitness. I hope to directly influence playing standards locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.”

After completing the Starting in Business Programme earlier this year Norris went on to launch Double Touch Soccer and adds: “The NBV trainers were very helpful. They really simplified the topics and gave real life scenarios to help get the point across. I have now fully embraced the concept of accounts and administration and have realised it is all part and parcel of running a business.”

The pick of the best for Soccer Academies and Centre of Excellence

The key focus of Double Touch Soccer is to support and develop young players into thinking, feeling and embracing the importance of their technical abilities without being held back in any way. Norris adds: “This will also improve soccer at grassroots creating a greater pool of players for our Soccer Academies and Centre of Excellence to choose from.”

The support from NBV, combined with Norris’ years of experience in the sports industry, has taken Double Touch Soccer from business idea to business reality. We asked Norris what his business aspirations are: “My initial focus is to create a demand for Double Touch Soccer through training sessions at grassroots and professional soccer clubs. I would like to expand to sessions in leisure centres and create a new trend in soccer coaching where young people can access information on the internet through bespoke online products.”

Often considered the ‘boring bit’ of being in business, NBV simplifies and jargon-busts financial procedures to help anyone get their head around the financial side of running a business. Norris adds: “Being taken step by step through the financial side has been a blessing, especially learning about tax.”
