A recent survey by Aviva* of 1,500 SME’s showed that there were mixed views held by small business owners regarding the potential threat of cyber crime to their businesses. The survey reported that 2 out of 5 businesses saw no risk from cyber crime and more than a third were uncertain as to how they would deal with an attack.
Small business owners can download a handy guide on cyber security on the GOV.UK website which can be accessed here.
The advice not only helps you to ensure that you’ve got the basics in place i.e. using secure passwords and downloading software updates, but it also has lots of useful information to help you put a risk management strategy in place, so that you can effectively deal with a cyber crime attack should one occur.
The Aviva survey reported that the cost of recovering from a cyber crime could be in the region of £1000 – so be proactive and not reactive and put a strategy in place to protect your business.
