The business idea

Eugene Sona approached NBV in 2016 for advice on setting up his own security company. With significant experience working in the security sector, Eugene wanted skills support and further advice on how to make his business ideas a reality.

From the outset, Eugene was supported by his NBV adviser Gau Naik, who has worked with him to firmly establish Securee Limited.

The challenges

Gau has advised Eugene on good business governance. This includes important legislation affecting recruitment policies for his sector, and the impact of zero hour contracts. They also worked on producing a business plan to make Securee Limited ready for funding and investment.

Eugene also received help with digital media and a virtual office space.

“The Start & Grow scheme is worth its weight in gold for serious individuals looking to make a difference.  I could not have achieved any of this on my own.”

Programme Impact

Eugene has been given the skills and confidence to drive his fledgling business forward in line with legislation, and recruit security staff. He now has 4 security staff and hopes to recruit more as his business grows.

Thanks to Gau’s help to produce a business plan, Eugene is now considering loan funding options including a potential grant from NBV to accelerate the growth of his business further.

Eugene’s future plans for Securee Limited include acquiring an office space as the business expands, recruiting further security staff to help manage local demand and winning more contracts.
